UV PØP

John White was U.V. PØP right from the start when he began playing live early 1982. Back then his ´band´ consisted of nothing more than himself plus a series of pre-recorded backing tapes. The arrangement proved both pragmatic and effective as with this arrangement there were no other band members to consider, no compromises, just a man and his Revox and, as Richard Strange once sagely observed: ´A Revox doesn't answer back.´ This line-up served him well, early concerts included supports with In The Nursery, Danse Society and the fledgling Pulp.... His first single was recorded and produced by Cabaret Voltaire – it took him to support slots with hitherto unknown Culture Club, John Cooper Clarke and Nico plus an invite to perform in Holland and with it a live peformance on Radio Hilversum’s Sunday afternoon show VPRO Spleen. It was at this time that he was picked up by the legendary John Peel and this time also that john joined Sheffield group Artery as guitarist for a short tour of Italy and a series of UK dates, leaving subsequently however to concentrate on his main passion UV PØP. Future favourite songs emerged – like “No Songs Tomorrow”, “Serious”, ”Anyone For Me” and the uncompromising “Sleep Don’t Talk”. John’s catalogue expanded – first with the critically acclaimed “No Songs Tomorrow” album and it’s follow up “Bendy Baby Man”. This early material has been re-issued in recent years and the as yet unreleased material is coming out on genetic music. "The Cellar Tapes" (as a split with John's pre-UV POP band called the I Scream Brothers) and "In Your Skin" an album self-released in 1996. Both releases feature bonus material. A release of recent material is also planned...

I Scream Brothers

The 'I Scream Brothers' were founded by Mark Hughes and Phil Shephard in Doncaster (UK) in 1980 and were joined shortly afterwards by John K. White. The band played gigs around the north of England and recorded a few demo songs. There have not been any releases, except a compilation appearance on the 'Your Secret's Safe With Us' LP and two songs were re-recorded and produced by 'Cabaret Voltaire' for the '5 Miles To Midnight' compilation LP in 1981 (the first release of Marcus Featherby's Pax Records label). After the 'I Scream Brothers' split up, Mark and Phil formed 'Shout The Shout', a more mainstream project and John White went on to work on his solo-act 'UV Pop'...
